The age of the internet has brought with it a whole new way to buy firearms. Gone are the days of driving from gun shop to gun shop searching for the exact handgun, rifle or shotgun you have your heart set on, and then, if or when you finally find it, discovering that the price tag is more than your wallet can handle.
What has replaced this frustrating challenge is a worldwide web chock full of every firearm imaginable, popping up on your computer screen from trusted dealers as fast as your internet connection can carry them. It’s never been easier to purchase the gun of your dreams, and the time has come to take that step towards your first online firearm purchase.
The online gun store is a mecca of industry leading and legendary new or used guns for sale that you just can’t find in the brick and mortar stores. Trusted dealers such as Gun Broker, Guns America, Guns International, Gallery of Guns, Buds Gun Shop, Impact Guns, and Omaha Outdoors are great places to start your search for that perfect tactical weapon, or that ideal concealed carry pistol. Many of these dealers have daily gun deals and specials, so following them on Facebook, Instagram or YouTube sites and subscribing to their email lists ensure you’ll never miss a sale event.
A considerable advantage that online dealers have over storefront sellers is the capability to carry a wide array of brands and bring you products recently unveiled at a gun show. This ability also overlaps into the world of collectibles and used guns, as many online gun shops stock hard to find gun auction items that you’d never see in a “mom and pop” store. Finding guns for sale online and customized builds that are specific to your shooting style is easier than ever and less hassle than you think. But before you hit the “buy now” button and get your firearm bill of sale, the next step is locating a Federal Firearm Licensee (FLL) gun or pawn shop in your area.
When you purchase a gun online, the online dealer will need to ship your new firearm to a business that holds a Federal Firearm License. To find an FFL dealer that can legally process your new firearm transfer, you can either type in “gun store near me” in the Google search bar or utilize the online FLL directory- FLL Easy. You will need this information to complete your firearm purchase through the online gun store. When your purchase arrives at the dealer, you must go to that location to fill out the necessary paperwork to take possession of the weapon. Be prepared to pay a transfer fee when you go to the FLL to pick up your gun, as most charge this to cover the costs incurred with the transfer. Generally, it averages around $25.00 but is subject to the pick-up store’s policy.
Once the firearm has arrived at the gun shop you have selected, there will be some paperwork to fill out. Online firearm purchases must follow the same stringent regulations as brick and mortar stores, and you will be required to fill out an ATF Form 4473 as well as go through a background check. These ATF rules ensure the person buying the gun can legally do so, as those who have the following cannot possess a firearm.
Additionally, individuals younger than 18 years of age cannot purchase a firearm and those younger than 21 years of age cannot buy a handgun.
